We took the bullet train to Nanjing and were bussed out to a museum, only to find it was an old palace and not the Nanjing Museum. So we bussed across Nanjing ( pop 8 million) and found the construction site ŷof the museum which was closed in 2012 for rebuilding. A deal of angry discussion then took place since the itinerary was settled ages ago and someone should have noted this. So we were dumped in the bazaar area and wandered about. Debbie and I found a likely looking restaurant - full of Chinese having lunch - and joined them. The best aubergines dish yet!!, and lots of delicious green tea.
The city is full of waterways and there are lots of houseboats.
We walked into a shop selling ceramics and were bowled over. The photo is of their larger items, mostly 10 to 12 inches high. I did buy an ikebana vase in earthenware and a wooden stand for it. Debbie splashed out and bought a celadon green incense burner of porcelain. It had some wonderful works of art. So this partially assuaged the anger caused by the museum debacle. Only everyone is very anxious about tomorrow now. We are driving to Suchow which is a long way.

About Me
- Pat
- I am weaver and - -. I dye my yarns with acid dyes, I paint my warps, put fabric collages and stencils on my weaving. I have three looms, a 12 inch wide, 12 shaft Meyer for demos and courses, a 30 inch Louet Kombo which is nominally portable but has a stand, two extra beams and a home-made device containing a fan reed. And last a 32 shaft Louet Megado which is computer controlled, has a sectional warp and a second warp beam and I am the proud owner of an AVL warping wheel which I love to bits and started by drilling holes in. I inserted a device for putting a cross in. I have just acquired an inkle loom and had a lesson from an expert so I can watch TV and weave at the same time. I am interested in weaving with silk mostly 60/2 although I do quite a bit with 90/2 silk. I also count myself as a bookbinder with a special interest in Coptic binding.
