I explained my problems to the guru - in his hospital bed - and he asked a lot of questions. The relevant one was 'where exactly did you plug in the network?' We use a mains network system so we have a connection plugged into the mains supply in the office and another plugged in to that in the loom room. But I had plugged it into the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in the loom room - whence it sees nothing! Move it to an ordinary mains outlet and Houston, we have lift-off!
